What is Fireworks?

Fireworks is a revolutionary English language programme that fully integrates print and digital resources in a complete package for primary schools.

The Fireworks English programme offers the following:

Fantastic range of high-interest fiction and non-fiction texts to engage students

  • Fireworks promotes a love of reading through engaging fiction, non-fiction, drama and poetry
  • Beautifully illustrated throughout the Junior Level eBooks and in the anthologies in the Senior Classes
  • Includes the finest in real children’s literature from Roald Dahl to Eoin Colfer
  • Incorporates a wide range of genres:
    • fiction
    • non-fiction
    • drama
    • poetry
    • nursery rhymes
    • fairy tales
    • songs

Ground-breaking digital and audio resources for your classroom

Fireworks also includes ground-breaking interactive CDs suitable for Junior Infants to 2nd Class students which encourage whole class participation on the interactive whiteboard or digital projector.

  • Each CD has up to 16 separate eBooks, with read-along text and colourful illustrations.
  • Each eBook has an interactive activity to consolidate aspects of oral language and comprehension.
  • Worksheets and teacher notes on the CD support planning and differentiation.
  • The eBooks are fully interactive. You can:
    • read and listen word-by-word, page-by-page or as a whole story.
    • record your own narration to the story.
    • print off the story to facilitate shared reading.
  • Audio for the read-along texts is provided by master storyteller Niall de Burca and actors Liz Watchorn and Fiona Curry.

Carefully structured and planned programme delivering all your curriculum needs

  • All the Dolch words, many common tricky words and high-frequency words are carefully introduced across the first four years of school within texts that are varied and fun. Activities in the pupil’s books and on the interactive CDs help consolidate these words.
  • Auditory discrimination exercises at junior levels help children identify common sounds.
  • Comprehension skills are developed from the start through activities on the CDs as well as in the pupil’s books at Junior Levels, and through the dedicated skills books from 3rd to 6th Class.
  • Oral comprehension questions accompany each story in the Anthologies at senior level. These questions have been carefully developed so that pupils can:
    • investigate the text
    • read between the lines
    • think and search for meaning outside the text
    • consider how the story applies to them
  • Written comprehension, process writing skills and mini-skills are developed for the senior levels through the skills books which are closely related to the anthologies.
  • Comprehensive teacher support is provided on the CDs and in teacher’s handbooks:
    • extensive support for school planning
    • curriculum objectives
    • extension and differentiation ideas
    • assessment support
  • Fireworks English programme is the perfect choice to use alongside your school’s literacy initiatives.

Significant savings for your booklist!

We have significantly reduced the cost of this new English programme to parents:

  • Our research shows that the one-size-fits-all approach to class readers frustrates many teachers, parents and pupils! Fireworks English programme has no class reader from Junior Infants to 2nd Class. Instead, your class readers are now properly integrated digital eBooks on CD-ROM, to be read, listened to and interacted with by the whole class.
  • A pupil’s book at each level contains activities relating to each eBook, developing comprehension and writing skills and consolidating reading.
  • The programme is designed to be used alongside your parallel readers, so that each child can read real books at their own pace.
  • Fireworks English programme acknowledges that many different phonics programmes are used in Irish schools. It is therefore designed to be used alongside any phonics programme and does not assume the introduction of phonic sounds in any particular order.

If you have any questions in relation to the Fireworks English programme, please do not hesitate to contact your local Fireworks rep.
